Mini vs Maxi Day 2

Waking up to the crashing waves in Morgan Bay Hotel I got out of bed and wondered out onto the deck to have a look outside. The weather was not too bad and we enjoyed an excellent breakfast in the restaurant. We checked out and headed out of Morgan Bay in the "mini" VW Polo. We headed for Inkwenkwezi Private Game Reserve where we were scheduled to enjoy an experience one will only get in Africa, walk with African Elephants. We jumped into the Land Rover with our guide who took us on an awesome 4x4 drive to where the "jumbos"were waiting.

Jonker and Sisa ready for the activity

When we arrived where the elephants were waiting in the bush for us, feeding on the trees around them they all started towards us with their trainers who introduced themselves and the elephants and made us feel very comfortable with them. After a good explenation on what was going to happen we headed into the bush side by side with the mighty African Elephant.

We returned back to the main reception area where we were taken through to the camp where the cheetah were held. we entered and were told to wait until the ranger had found the cheetah and ensured all was safe for us to approach and enjoy an interaction with these incredible creature.

We enjoyed an excellent lunch, fortunately not as big as the Maxi Burger as yesterday, I enjoyed a lamb curry potjie which is a great dish. We departed and traveled to the nearby Areena Riverside Resort where we had a fantastic time doing some adventure activities. First we took a ride around the farm area on a big quad bike.

We rode up to a fantastic view point looking over the whole resort and then Ed the owner took us for a new experience offered by Areena, a zip line that they have just completed which will be launched on the 1st of September in time for the Eastern Cape Tourism Month. We took part in 4 of the slides which was an adrenalin pumping experience.

We left Areena on a high in our VW Polo and travelled further along the Jikaleza to our over night spot, Stokkies & Skulpies Self Catering. We stopped at the local Spar Supermarket and bought our dinner which was a braai and then continued to Stokkies & Skulpies and checked in. We ended the day enjoying a quiet braai with a glass of wine on the deck.

What a day!!

Untill then, explore and enjoy the journey.

Mini vs Maxi Day 1

The day started at the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency at 09h00. We were welcomed and given some great promotional meterial just to let everyone who saw us know who we were and what we were doing. We all filed out to the two vehicles that were waiting for us, our Mini VW 1.6 Polo sadanand the Maxi's VW AMOROK. We filled up with fuel and headed out to Inkwenkwezi Pribvate Game Reserve for the official launch. Inkwenkwezi was kind enough to sponsor the event and they gave us a great send off after giving us a Mini vs Maxi lunch with a choice between a mini burger or a maxi burger. Jonker and sisa both braved the maxi burger even though they were in the mini team, I could only manage a mini burger but was happy with that.

We left inkwenkwezi and travelled into the Wild Coast to Morgan Bay where we were kindly hosted by Morgan Bay Hotel. The hotel is looking really fantastic and the rooms are incredible and not to mention the veiw, over looking the "wild" Indian Ocean. We drove past the Eish Airlines (The big pink plane) just before the Morgan Bay turn off. When we arrived at Morgan Bay we checked in and left for the lagoon where we enjoyed a canoe trip up river looking for the resident Fish Eagle.

We grabed a few drinks and headed up the Kranse where we enjoyed sundowners and were met by some interesting chaps returning to the Western Cape from a week up deep in the Wild Coast, Mpami where they seemed to have a great time exploring and fishing. We all enjoyed the awesome sunset and then proceeded down to the hotel again for a fresh shower and then dinner.

We will give an update on the tour again tomorrow evening on what we were up to on Day 2.

Untill then, Explore and enjoy the journey!!

Mini Vs Maxi Eastern Cape tour

Looking forward to tomorrow when our Mini vs Maxi tour departs from East London, I am really looking forward to seeing the places we will be visiting and the activities we are going to be partaking in.

The are that I will be experiencing is on the Mini part of the tour and we will be visiting the beginning part of the Wild Coast. The Eastern Cape truly has so much to offer, just on our tour we will be visiting the fantastic Wild Coast where there are great walks along the coast line.

Other areas of interest that may be part of the Mini tour is a visit to the Grahamstown area where some of the best Game Reserves in the Eastern Cape are situated. The Eastern Cape offers fantastic safari experiences to all kinds of travellers. I recall visiting two of the private lodges in the Addo National Park which was an incredible experience viewing Lion, Buffalo and Elephant, we even got to see a Black Rhino.

The Maxi tour will be visiting the Storms River Village where they will be taking part in some of the adventure activities available there like the Tree Top Canopy Tours.

We will be returning on Sunday with a lot to say about the trip. we will let you know all about our trip through the Eastern Cape and I will be publishing all our photos that I will take of the tour to give everyone a visual understanding of the tour. We might even be able to get a video or two in as well.

So Join our Facebook page and follow our twitter account (@Traveleastcape) and keep up dated on our trip.

Until next time.
